Welcome to Gwoonwardu Mia
Welcome to Gwoonwardu Mia, a vibrant cultural centre celebrating the rich heritage, stories and creativity of the five Aboriginal language groups of the Gascoyne.
As you enter the building, you’ll find the Art Gallery Shop, featuring a beautiful collection of locally created artworks, gifts and cultural products, alongside Jardilunji Mia, our welcoming café where you can enjoy fresh food and refreshments inspired by local flavours and hospitality.
Take a moment to admire the building itself. Its contemporary design has been carefully created to reflect the surrounding landscape and the enduring connection between people, Country and culture. The architecture blends modern materials with cultural symbolism, creating a space that is both welcoming and meaningful.
Be sure to look at the striking youth-designed panels on the exterior of the building. Created by young people from the Gascoyne region, these artworks celebrate identity, community and the continuation of cultural knowledge through future generations. Together, they provide a powerful first impression and reflect Gwoonwardu Mia’s commitment to nurturing young voices while honouring ancient traditions.
Whether you’re here to explore the exhibitions, enjoy a meal, discover local art or learn about the cultures of the Gascoyne, we hope your visit offers a deeper connection to this remarkable place and its people.
