St Wyola Ash Hoist Engine
Essentially a reversible winch, this engine was used on the steam tug Wyola in Western Australian waters between 1913 and 1970 when the tug was dragged ashore and broken up near Robbs Jetty in North Coogee.
The engine was used to hoist buckets of ash and clinker from the boiler room to the deck where it was thrown overboard, a practice now banned.
