Dines Anemometer

Recording the Wind

Anemometers are used to record wind speed and direction. This one was originally used at the Cantonment Hill Signal Station overlooking the harbour. it was later transferred to the new signal station at the top of the Fremantle Ports administration building.

Climatic conditions at Fremantle follow 2 distinct patterns. Severe winter gales and brisk summer sea breezes have in the past proved disastrous for visiting ships.
