One-sided Bottlebrush

Supporting native wildlife with bright blooms

As you wander along the pathways, look for the one-sided bottlebrush, Calothamnus quadrifidus. This native Western Australian shrub has fine, needle-like leaves and bright red flowers that grow along one side of the stem.

Its unusual flower shape gives the plant its common name. When in bloom, the flowers add colour to the garden and provide food for birds, insects and other pollinators.

Plants like the one-sided bottlebrush are well suited to local conditions and play an important role in supporting the life of the garden. Look closely at the stems and flowers, and notice how different their form is from other plants nearby.
