Mount Barker Co-operative Building

Celebrating a Legacy of Community Support and Orchard History

Welcome to the historic Mount Barker Co-operative building, a cornerstone of our community's rich agricultural heritage. Founded in 1917, the Mount Barker Co-operative Society played a pivotal role in supporting the burgeoning orchard industry, particularly apple growing and export, in this vibrant region.

Nestled just 50 kilometres north of Albany, this co-operative blossomed into a thriving enterprise, providing essential services and employment opportunities across the district. While the building itself was part of the original facility, it is fondly remembered as the Butcher's Shop. In the 1990s, it was carefully relocated to its current location, where it continues to serve as a hub for community events, talks, and exhibitions.

Explore the stories of the past and imagine the bustling activity that once filled these walls. This venue stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the people who shaped Mount Barker's agricultural legacy. Whether you're here for an event or simply to soak in the history, we invite you to reflect on the cooperative spirit that continues to inspire our community today.
