Tourism ventures
A hub for summer holidaymakers
Albany’s reputation as a health resort in the early 20th century encouraged tourism which only increased as transport by rail and car became cheaper and more accessible. Hotels and guesthouses sprung up, and special events like horse races, motor gymkhanas and yacht regattas were a feature of the summer season, which attracted visitors from the sweltering wheatbelt and Perth regions.
