Stoneware Bottle, c.1912–1930

Pop, Pottery and Practicality

This sturdy ginger beer bottle was made by Bendigo Pottery, Australia’s oldest working pottery sometime between 1912 and 1930. It bears the name Chapman and Jose, the local producers who sold the fizzy treat inside.

These stoneware bottles were not only durable but practical: easily identified and locally reused, they were returned, refilled, and popped open again, long before recycling was fashionable!
