Land to Sea
Waterways, Footprints, and Living Culture
This collaborative artwork is a tribute to the Wilinya, Nhanhagardi, Nhanda, Nhawugaja, Badimaya, and Wajarri peoples past, present, and future. It honours the enduring richness of Yamaji cultures across the Mid West of Western Australia.
The flowing lines represent three major rivers Murchison, Greenough, and Irwin which have long connected people to land, to sea, and to each other. Footprints in the design reflect the many Aboriginal cultures who moved across Country, visiting waterholes, sharing stories, and gathering seasonal foods.
Despite the devastating impact of colonisation, Yamaji communities continue to maintain strong cultural traditions living, practising, and passing them on today.
