Eastern Osprey

The eastern osprey (Pandion cristatus) is a skilled fish-hunting bird of prey found along Australia’s coasts, islands, and large inland waterways. Using keen eyesight, it spots fish from high above, then dives with talons outstretched to snatch its catch from the water’s surface.

Pairs often return to the same large stick nest year after year, adding new material each season. Ospreys are powerful fliers and can carry fish long distances to feed themselves and their young.
