Baby Hawksbill Turtles

These juvenile hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) are tropical marine reptiles that sometimes appear far from home. Swept south along the coast by the warm Leeuwin Current, they may be found in Western Australian waters well outside their usual range. Recognisable by their pointed beaks and beautifully patterned shells, hawksbill turtles are critically endangered worldwide due to habitat loss, egg harvesting, and entanglement in fishing gear.
