Carnaby’s Cockatoo
A Threatened Black-and-White Beauty
Carnaby’s cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus latirostris) is found only in Western Australia, ranging from the lower Murchison region east to Cape Arid. This threatened species has declined sharply in the Wheatbelt due to the loss of nesting hollows caused by land clearing. After breeding in inland woodlands, the birds gather in flocks and move to coastal areas, often feeding in pine plantations.
