Western Australian Insects

A Showcase of Colour, Shape, and Survival

This case brings together a variety of remarkable insects from across Western Australia, each adapted to thrive in its unique environment. Among them are the Black-spotted Longicorn Beetle (Parchus saundersi), found on jam trees, and the shimmering Roe’s Jewel Beetle (Stigmodera roei), once prized for making brooches. You’ll also spot the impressive largest Australian jewel beetle, Julodimorpha bakewelli, alongside its tiny cousin, Germarica lilliputana, the smallest of the group.

Other highlights include a giant leaf insect (phasmid), a sand dune cicada, a ghost moth with its pupal case, a large weevil, and a carnivorous ground beetle mid-hunt. Together, they tell a story of Western Australia’s incredible insect diversity, from desert dunes to eucalyptus forests.
