Red Kangaroo (Marlu)
Macropus rufus
The Red Kangaroo is the largest living marsupial and is found across Australia’s arid and semi-arid regions. Well adapted to dry environments, it can obtain most of its water from green plants. During drought, when fresh plant food is scarce, red kangaroos stop breeding until conditions improve.
Since European settlement, populations have grown in many areas due to the creation of pastoral grasslands, which provide more year-round grazing than the original desert vegetation.
