Pliosaur Bones

Remains of a Jurassic Sea Hunter

These fossilised bones belong to Leptocleidus clemai, a type of pliosaur that swam in the seas off Western Australia around 120 million years ago. Pliosaurs were marine reptiles, relatives of plesiosaurs that filled a role similar to modern seals, hunting fish and other marine animals close to shore.

Discovered near Kalbarri, this particular species could grow up to 3 metres long, with strong flippers for swimming and powerful jaws for catching prey. These remains offer a rare glimpse into the rich marine life that once thrived along Australia’s ancient coastline.
