Mary Edney
Mary Edney is a gifted artist and mentor from the Wajarri, Yinggarda, Whadjuk, and Yuet peoples. Raised in diverse locations like Burringurrah, Meekatharra, Perth, and Carnarvon, she carries a rich tapestry of cultural influences in her work.
Mary's journey in art began at age eight, under the guidance of her stepmother, Beryl Walsh, who taught her to paint. This early instruction fostered a deep connection to her cultural heritage, which she expresses through her vibrant artwork. Her paintings are a testament to resilience, inspired by her family and life experiences.
Currently based in Carnarvon, Mary works at Jardilungi Mia Café and mentors new students entering the hospitality industry. Her passion for teaching extends to her children and grandchildren, whom she hopes will carry on her artistic legacy. Mary's art is a labor of love, patience, and dedication, with each piece reflecting her enduring spirit.
