Wrought Iron
Recovered from the hold of the 373-ton American China-trader Rapid, which was wrecked at Point Cloates in 1811.
Unlike the two large anchors at the bow of the vessel, it is about one-third the weight and able to be lowered into a boat for setting away from the ship itself. With an iron stock, it is similar in design to the stream anchor cut loose from HMS Investigator by Matthew Flinders in May 1803.
